The Obama family has a sweet tooth & great taste!
ET Online, www.etonline.com/news/2008/11/67587/index.html, reveals the President Elect's family love of Fran's Chocolates. OTM agrees with them that our good friend Fran Bigelow of Fran's Chocolates in Seattle, www.franschocolates.com, makes the best. We share Barack's passion for the sea salt encrusted caramels, winners of an NASFT award a couple of years ago. Co-host Ann's lack of a sweet tooth doesn't extend to these delicious morsels. We have not seen any reports on the favorite sweets of VP-Elect Joe Biden, or their Republican contenders. We have our suspicions about Sarah's, but don't dare to name them. Perhaps you're braver than OTM and would like to offer your suggestions....

Nuevo Vasco Rocks!!
On the Menu recently dined with and interviewed Chefs/Owners of 3 restaurants named to the Restaurant Magazine-San Pellegrino World's top 50. That we did this in 3 days is remarkable in itself. What's more remarkable is that all 3 are within 20 minutes driving distance of each other, in the Basque (Vasco) region of Northern Spain. Mugaritz (ranked #4), Arzak (8) and Martin Berasategui (29) are in and around San Sebastian (Donostia to Basques), making it the right place to stay when you visit these great restaurants. There are 2 more that we couldn't include in our brief visit. We'd love to hear from you if you've explored this exciting cuisine, and of course we welcome your suggestions about other places that have a similar concentration of fine dining experiences.
